Nat Turner Theory 12/22/10

I was studying for the upcoming History Test and was reading about Nat Turner, the slave in Virginia who led a rebellion. Then I noticed something peculiar, the number of white men that the black men killed was 56 people. Then Nat was executed along with 56 other black men. I am wondering if this is just a coincidence that 57 black men were hanged when 56 white men died during the uprising. I think the state was really trying to say "It doesn't matter how many of us you kill, we can still kill more of you." Did the men probobly have something to do with the rebellion? Probably, but I think that there were many more men and the state was just trying to make a point of killing 57 of them, one more than the people who died actually during the fight.

12/20/10

I enjoyed the lesson today about the curropt government and our challenged rights. I recently flew over seas and had to go through the body scan and did not enjoy it all. I liked the connection between now and back then. It keeps me interested and makes a bigger connection with myself.

12/16/10

I enjoyed class very much yesterday because of the discussion we had about political ads and how they effect us. We are having a test soon and I am a little nervous because of the consistent Cs that I have recieved on tests and quizzes.

11/17/10

So I have discovered that I have a solid C in History. That was pretty upsetting but I was able to figure out what the problems were and hopefully will skyrocket to a B+ or even A-. Today we worked in our groups to try to get a good chunk of our projects down. I think ours is going to be great and hoepfully this will give me a good start to a new quarter.

Today in History we were taking a "quest" and I had to be dismissed so I didn't actually finish it. I think I've done very well so far on it but their were a couple questions that I were not sure on.

Loved class the other day, I had Megane my french person with me and I think she enjoyed seeing how an american Law Office works. I would love to play that game just at home by myself.

Today we dicussed with our groups then dicussed with the whole class. Soon we kind of got off topic and discussed politics and propaganda. I am sad that I am not doing as well as I should in this class and hope to get a lot better. I think the problem is that I am nto studying the notes as well as I should.

I am memorizing the preamble right now and will be for the rest of the night. Studying has become for me memorizing instead of actually taking it in. Today we also took a good amount of notes which i am always happy to do.

Blog 7

Oh me, I had forgotten to write the last two nights of blogs. I apologize for that. Now I am going to summerize everything that has happened. We chatted a good amount about the 3 most important wars. I said Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, and Long Island. After writing down all the notes the class ended. Today I was wasn't in class for very long so I missed most of it.

We did almost a role play today of the signing on decleration of independence. I was Francis Lewis and I didn't seem to have much of a point to make. I pretty much said New York didn't tell me to do anything but I'll sign your paper. Now I have 6 lines of the decleration to memorize and have 4 down. People seem to think because I am in drama and memorized all of Helena's lines in a Midsummer Nights Dream that memorizing anything just comes to me natuarlly. No it doesn't. I have months to learn that. Time to start repeating the same sentence over and over and over again...

I enjoyed History today quite a lot. I happen to have a vicous love of debates and enjoyed being King Geogre imensely. I think I got my point across greatly with a good amount of argueing. And it become the rebels against the British. I would have to say King George ruled that debate!

I would love to do more activities like the one today.

More group work today. I now unofficouly King George the 3rd and I have to say my love for King George so I am a little glad to be him. Took notes on the retreat of the British and I have to say the British must have looked like cowards walking all the way back. One has to wonder if they lost their formation now and then and just cried. I think they did.

Maybe it's my love for old technology that the more I look at this blog I was to pull out my film camera and take pictures of flowers. I am literally listening to Abbey Road on vinyl right now so technology isn't really my cup of tea. Now that I have that off my chest I will have to say I love Google Maps and was excited to explore it today. I enjoyed seeing how long the walk the British took to get from Concord to Boston and back. I love visual teaching so it really helped me understand the path. Also I go every year to the reenactment in Concord and I have to say it's really fun.

Paul Revere Poem

Here is the tale of three brave men
Always saying Amen

Revere, Dawes, and Prescott three
Just wanting to be free

Now they are on their horses
Trying to warn about the armed forces

Oh my goodness Revere is caught!
Prescott and Dawes leave distraught

Revere must walk
To the dock

Now it's time to fight
Keep the lanterns bright!

Event Summary

Royal Proclamation
The colonists wanted to move West into the indians land which made them pretty pissed. Since the Indians tremedously outnumbered the colonists they made the Royal Proclamation so the English were not able to go past the Apps.

Stamp Act
A tax was put on stamps so that the colonists could help England pay for the troops. Commercial docs, newpapers, and more were taxed. This was taxation without representation so everyone was pissed about that too.

Boston Massacre
The colonies were desperate for their own rights so Samuel Adams organized a boycott. Many soldiers got taunted untill it escaleted and people started shooting on State St where the State T stop is now.

Boston Tea Party
They were throwing boxes of tea off a boat because of the taxes on it dressed as mohawk indians. Its costed over 50,000 pounds of tea.

Intolerable acts
Britain wanted the colonies for all the uproar they have caused. Boston then got a lot of support from the colonies across New England. They decided to call for contentil congresss.

First Contentil Congress
There was 55 delagets from 5 states to discuss the colonies hate for Britain. The reconcial act with Britain did not pass so the colonists started training in combat incase Britain decided to attack.

I believe that the moment the revolution was inevitable was when they moved the colonists to America. If you let someone move away they aren’t going to want to listen to you anymore but have their independence. There was no way to take control after they stepped off the boat.

I thought this project was somewhat of a success. I was hoping I would learn more from the other groups and even though the common conception of teenagers is they all have ipods and computors and can look at a computor screen and now how to make it look diffrent. I don't, I listen to records and use film cameras. I don't own a Ipod so for me it was disapointing.

Blog Number 3

Today in History I presented my beautifully dawn Thomas Hutchinson, the former governer of Boston (my favorite city, and successfully got through the speech. Then I went on to listen to everyone else talk about their former political masters. I forgot to present what was in the pocket of Thomas which was the king of England at the time. I put this in because of Thomas' undying love of Britain.

Blog Number 2

Today in History class we were in the computor lab trying to finish the project that we had started. After a surprising turn of events half of our project was deleted. (me, Chelsea, and Sam) Frantic we finished our project once again and recorded it on Mr. Boyle's computor. And now I have to finish the replica project while I have the drawing skills of a drunk animal. Good luck to me.

Blog Number 1 1/2

So I wasn't actually in History class today since I was racing through Massachusetts trying to find a place that tests for learners permits so I missed class. But I can take an educated geuss that it had something to do with history.

Project that I haven't started due Tuesday which I am being forced to finish tonight since this whole weekend is devoted to being at concerts. Dr. Dog, OK GO, Guster, Ziggy Marley, Brett Dennen, The Sippy Cups, ad so many more. I will be worrying about voice theards. Wow, history is just raining on my parade.

What we did in History today, we continued to discuss these blogs and the upcoming projects where the due dates are nearing much too fast. Then went on to maps of industry and religion in the early American colonies. I didn't get to many wrong so that was a highlight of the day! Finally finishing up with a discussion we rapped up the class.

There ya' go.

My Three Goals For 2010-2011

So I have been told to list and explain how I will achieve three goals through my sophmore year. I am going to try not to list the obvious goals that every highschooler should probobly set. For example study, work hard, listen to your teachers, whatever else grownups tell teenagers.

So let's see... My first goal for the 2010 school year would have to be do not stress out. Putting on four honors classes and three months of either play rehersal or work each and every day is enough to make me go crazy. I plan to take a breather every now and then, or all the time. I need to take sometime off to not think about school or work or acting so I am going to go to at least one concert once a month, for my sanity.

Second goal would be to understand everyone's point of veiws better than I already do. Having strong opinions can be a gift and a curse at the same time but I do try as hard as I can to understand other people opinions or at least respect them. Learning that most people are never going to see the way you see doesn't mean you shoudln't try to learn how the opposite person thinks. I am going to stop thinking I am right and instead say that in my head I'm right and to the world I am probobly not. But all the while my opinions will not be faltered just more open to other ideas.

Lastly would be watch and care about what's happening in the world. Of course there are the stories that I get invloved because I care about the topic deeply. I already watch The Daily Show nightly since I can't stand the depression of regular news. But now instead of just watching what is going on I want to get out and participate. Sadly, being 16 you can't sign a whole lot of petitions so this year will consist of more running through Boston trying to find protests to join. But even though I am 16 with the rest of my grade it isn't much of an excuse to not try and get out of your house, stop staring at your computor, and do something important.

So those are my three goals. We will just wait and see what the year has in store.
